I have a similiar problem to Mike G. Redline Recovery Services keeps calling my phone number looking for some person who apparently had this number before me. They call constantly and I have now spoken w/ them twice to stop calling this number but to this date have not done so. Can I use a similiar "Cease and Desist" letter to these people to get them to stop calling my number. However, I do not want to disclose to them my name and address, as they only have my phone number. Is there a way to do that?

Theresa, go ahead and send a cease and desist especially if you are being contacted for wrong reasons. Also, it will be wise to call them and verify the purpose and have it recorded. Let them say on their own that they are having your name wrongly in their system and as a result should stop calling you further. Most of the states allow recording of the calls secretly. You must check the laws in your state before you do the recording. The commitment made by the company will be helpful for legal purpose.

Samples of cease and desist letter are available in this forum. Send it to the company's mailing address and stop further calls from them.

The latest scam by deadbeats is to forward their phone to some unsuspecting innocent persons number so that the collection agency thinks they have the wrong number. There is no way for the agency to remove the number they called since the number the call is being received at is not the number the collection agency dialed.

I am getting calls from Redline recovery they are looking for my father. I cannot get them to understand that he doesn't live here and never has. I am not responsible for my dad's debt, so how can I get these rude and harassing calls to stop? They told me that my dad used our number as a reference, which was a lie. Then they cursed and yelled at me!

Because you have not givin your name is implying that you are the person they are looking for. You must realize that they hear the words wrong number a billion times a day and the FDCPA states that until they can verify that you are not the person they are looking for they can continue to call you once a day every day until they can verify that you are not the person they are looking for.

Why you wouldn't want to give your name in the first place is beyond me unless you have something to hide. it's not like they are going to run a search of your name in there system. Collections agencies are federaly regulated and yet to this day has there ever been a scam pulled on somebody because of there name and phone number. So long as you don't give out your full Social security number, D.O.B, or Credit card info there is nothing they can do. if you could scam somebody by there name and phone number there would laws banning phone books.

they are calling you not to make you pay but to get a phone number for your family member so they can pay. if they are calling asking for your dad. give them your dads number. then they will quit calling you unless you give them a wrong number. they may be trying to reach him to get a hold of someone else. here is how it works you help them they leave you alone if you are rude and don't help expect your phone to ring again. DUH... Besides FDCPA regulations allow them to continue to call you if they feel there is more information you are holding back as to the where abouts of the person they are trying to contact.
it's easier to assist than to avoid. avoiding only makes you look just as guilty as the person who ows the money.
Want to make it worse. If the debt collection agency takes legal action against the person they are looking for and come to find in the pre-legal investigation that you did know the person they are looking for a do have a contact number to reach them at and refused or lied to the debt collector. you will be legaly held in contempt of court for with holding information. Debt collectors are not to be messed with people. they have more legal power than you do. higher payed attornies, and the law works in there favore....why you might ask because the national debt is over a trillion $ and the money you owe is part of it. you wanna know why we are in a recession because we all owe money. if we would just pay our bills or make payments toward our bills the world or atleast america would be a better place to live. So quit complaining about the economy and do something about it. pay your bills. easy as that.

what is a pre-legal account? I have tried to make a payment plan that would be within my means with Redline Recovery. The payment plan they want to give me is very high 400-500 dollars which is not within my means. When I tell them they are not willing to work with me they say that my account is a Pre-Legal account and they are going by the payment standard for a Pre -Legal account. They are very rude on the phone and harrasing to take me to court. Is there anything I can do? I ended the call by telling them to send me an invoice of what I owe and that I will get back to them. Please explain this Pre-Legal to me and what my options are. Thank you Tiv
