I am receiving harrassing phone calls from us credit agency. they say they represent national credit adjusters who represent cmg group llc. They claim i took a payday loan in 2007 and never paid it back. They wouldnt say how much the loan was for but said the total due was $600 but they would settle for $240. I dont even know of taking this loan out but they have all my information. They are calling my place of work and my friends and told me they are going to issue a request to my employer to deduct the money from my pay. Can they do this? I have already filed a complaint with the florida attorney generals office. i see on here there are several other complaints about these companies. They wont send me anything on this alleged loan. I know CMG is not legal in Fla and if i did get the loan from them i know it was paid. Please Help. What do i do?

First, file a police report. Second, give a copy of that police report to your employer so they know you've been a victim of fraud and any attempts at using a wage assignment will be headed off. Third, the next time they call, tell them that unless they can send you something in writing, you're not talking to them anymore. Tell them you've also filed a police report. After that, don't talk to them again. Tell your friends and family members that you've been victim of fraud and that if they receive calls to just not talk to the people. They'll stop eventually, when they realize they can't get any money from you.

See, collection calls will always seem harassing. What you need to check is whether this agency is abiding by the norms. FOA, companies that are not allowed to operate in your state shouldn't bother you.
If they're allowed, they shouldn't be calling you at odd hours, shouldn't call you at work if you don't want them to, shouldn't get in touch with a third party more than once etc.
There's a way of going at it. They should have sent a validation notice to you within 5 days of their first communication. This notice underlines your right to dispute the said debt within 30 days. Once you'd send a DV letter, they're bound to validate your debt. They should be able to send you the proof of your debt within 30 days or else stop calling you.

Jeorge, this company is not a legit CA. They're trying to collect on a debt that never existed. The OP stated that s/he never took out a payday loan with this company. What's likely is that s/he applied for a PDL from an illegal lender and then that lender shared his/her info with others. The scam is that these people come out of the woodwork months, sometimes years later and try to collect by harrassing you, threatening you, etc. Your advice applies for a legitimate CA. It doesn't apply here.
