I was wondering if someone could give me a little info on what I would need to request a refund from some of these places. I'm not holding out hope that I will actually get one, but I figured why not try. Can't hurt you know. What will I need to do to start the process, also some of these accounts are a year or two old, is it too late for me to try. Any help or info that anyone has will be greatly appreciated.

If they are that old you might be pushing it. I need more specifics, like who are the pdl's you are attempting to get a refund from, are they still harassing you, did you send out letters and end up closing your account, did you file complaints against them with your state attorney general and the FTC? Did you ever receive a response from the complaints? How much of a refund are you seeking from the pdl's?

I always say, it doesn't hurt to try.

Yeah i figured it couldn't hurt to try. The accounts are united cash loans, one click cash and ameriloan. I haven't dealt with them in a while. I sent them all the letters a while back and closed my account. I haven't heard from them in over a year, but I know back then I over paid them, the only problem is that since my account is closed I don't know by how much. Is that a problem if i don't know the exact amounts? i was going to see if they could tell me. I haven't filed anything with the AG or the FTC yet. Is there somewhere on here a template for a letter to send? Also what do I need to send to the AG and the FTC?

You need to know the exact amounts, yes, facts are VERY important! Don't count on them to provide any information, they won't. Once they hear from you again it will remind them you are another customer they can harass and threaten to try and leech more money from you.

EVERYone should file complaints against these companies with the FTC and their AG, the more complaints that are received the better the chances of a full fledged investigation will happen. I am working on an outline on how to file a complaint that will grasp our state and federal officials attention, but until then my advice would be to state the facts and include as much detailed information about these illegal lenders as you possibly can, ei., phone numbers, addresses, website links that have information about them, etc.

Let me check my files and I will reply with some suggestions on how to pursue a refund.

I figured, I also have one more that I more recently finished paying off that I over paid. It's qloot I over paid them by 80, I know that's not a huge amount, but if I can try for that I will. That one I definitely have paperwork showing that I over paid. One other question. What if the account was sent to a ca and the ca was over paid can I try and get a refund from the original pdl?

The only tips I can really give you when pursuing a refund is:
-Try to keep your email short, only state facts.
-If you make a threat be prepared to follow through with it.
-File complaints with the BBB, FTC and your AG, also include filing complaints with the AG and regulators of the states a particular payday lenders is located, or at least the address or state they "claim" to be located.
-Make it known you have filed these complaints.
-If a lender has provided a P.O. Box as an address, contact the U.S. Postal Service, inform them of the illegal business practices.
-Write articles and submit them to reputable consumer websites and let it be known to the illegal lender you are doing so.
As I stated above, send a PM to Kelz and ask her advice on how she proceeded, as she did so very successfully.

As far as this step goes what should I do to file these complaints and what should I tell them?
