I recently lost my job I am embarrassed beyond belief and cant handle it.
I close my bank account and am about to just default I can handle the stress

If they don't have the license to operate in your state, then I don't think they will be considered as legal in your state. In such a situation, you can only pay the principal amount. You won't have to pay any other fees to them.
