An online payday loan company contacted me and they seemed to be legit initially, the people I spoke with at first was American, and my checking account at the time was overdrawn and I was thinking about getting a payday loan to cover a check. The guy I spoke with told me that they could not do the payday loan since my account was overdrawn at the time. So I forgot about it and borrowed money from my sister. Next thing I knew, they called and left me a voice mail message telling me that I was approved and they put the $500 dollars to my checking account without my final approval.
I said ok, since they put the money into my account I would go ahead and pay them off my next paycheck. My pay period is every two weeks, the first pay period when the loan was due they deducted the interest of $175 dollars, and I called them and told them I would like to pay off the entire loan of $500 before my next pay period which would accrue another $175 dollars and I could not afford that so I called on Friday to ask to pay my loan off early to avoid any more interest.
They told me NO! I could not pay the loan off, it had to be automatically deducted my checking account??? WTF...so red flags starting going off and I asked them if they were in the United States and they told me they were in Panama...I immediately told them if they could not take the $500 dollars by credit card or check card they would NOT be paid, I would not allow them to keep deducting interest from my checking account. I went and closed out my checking account. They told me they could not accept credit card or check card payments. They will not be paid, also I am going to contact the BBB and the police and my local congressman.
