I live in DE and have payday loans with Manhattan Processing, Ace Cash Services, Alpine Loan and Black Card Loan. So far Ace has agreed to accept a settlement for principal that I borrowed. Alpine has tacked on an addition $350 fee and Manhattan is telling me from $400 they want $1468. I was called by a harrassing collection agency called Piedmont out of North Carolina, I think, threatening to fax my information to Wilmington County Sheriff. I have no idea if this place exists or not. Does anyone know if they can legally charge me that amount to pay back a defaulted loan?

Have you ever received a letter of collection from Piedmont, through the mail? They are acting as a 3rd party collector, so, they are required by federal law (FDCPA) to send you a dunning letter (or letter of collection) via the mail within 5 days of their first contact with you!

Never admit to owing a debt over the phone, NEVER! I will return with more information as soon as I do some research on your lenders.
