Is this company legitimate? I received a message from them about a complaint filed against me & a restraining order. When I called back, they were asking me to pay an oustanding debt with Wal-mart. They said if I didn't pay today, they would continue with the lawsuit. I don't know if this is legitimate or not as I did have a Wal-mart account years ago, but it's been paid & closed. I googled the comapny, and all I could find was scam & fraud alerts. They had all of my info, even my SS# but I refused to verify it as being correct. Does anyone know anything about this company???

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
Do you owe any other account by chance? If no, then ask the company to validate the debt. If they can't validate the debt, then send a cease and desist letter. Since they have already filed a lawsuit against you, so I think it is better to contact an experienced attorney in your state as early as possible. If you do owe the debt, then I would suggest you negotiate a settlement with them. Make sure you check whether or not Wal-mart has assigned the account to United Legal Alliance. You can also negotiate with Wal-mart to pull the account from the United Legal Alliance. You can work out an alternative payment plan with Wal-mart. Sometime the collection agencies give false threats to the consumers to make money. So, don't get scared.

This smells fishy as all get out. First off, they don't 'file a complaint' unless they are lawyers, which they are not. Secondly, a restraining order? Seriously? You should have asked for the case number. I bet my left arm there is no case at all....this is a classic, low down dirty tactic to get a quick payment before a person can think straight.

Immediately call your county courthouse and check into this suit, I bet it doesn't exist. If this is the case you should send them a strongly worded debt validation letter and also inform them that you will be complaining to your AG and their AG for lying about a lawsuit filed.

If they did in fact file, then don't bother with a DV-it is too late. BUT you can still fight. During the discovery process you can demand to see every shred of proof on this debt and if they can't produce it, you can get the case dismissed with prejudice.
