Ameriloan & PDL Assistance
Date: Sat, 01/15/2011 - 09:24
Been a few years since I posted anything, but it looks like I need some advice again.
A few years ago, I had found myself in the payday loan trap, and turned to PDL Assistance for help. You can see my original thread here:
http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/dealing-with-pdls.html
Since that time, PDL Assistance has successfully taken care of about half of my debts. But then, I stopped hearing updates from them. Each month, they keep deducting little pieces of the savings account I had initially set up with them for the purposes of settling my debt, but I've gotten no new news about debts actually being settled (beyond the five or so in the first five months). I doubt there's still enough in the account to settle with anyone.
So I take a look at their website, and notice the following:
"PDL Assistance is not currently accepting new clients beginning on October 27, 2010."
Hmmm, OK.
But it goes on:
"If you signed up with us prior to that, don't worry! We are here to help you. You can call us anytime at 1-800-957-8319."
So I call them up, and am told that my account with them has been canceled.
?
No one seems to know why. A supervisor is supposed to call me back and give me the lo-down. They haven't yet. I'll try calling them Monday morning to see if I can get to the bottom of this.
Alright, so much for that. Onto other news, I got a new call from Ameriloan, one of the creditors that I apparently haven't settled with yet. After the lady verifies my old email, then she asks for the last four of my social. I am hesitant to give this out, and ask what the call is regarding. I am told it is regarding my account with Ameriloan. I tell them I am busy and will call them back Monday.
To recap on this account:
1. I live in Texas
2. At the time I went with PDL assistance, I had borrowed 300 and still owed 325.
3. I had paid back 75
Assuming PDL Assistance can't help me with this anymore, here's what I want/need to know:
1. Is there any harm in giving them the last four of my social?
2. How much am I legally obliged to pay them back?
3. I assume they will try to tack some hellacious interest on this. Are they entitled to it?
4. What sort of documents do they have to provide to show what I'm legally obliged to pay?
5. Are there any sort of 'BS' documents they might whip up which I should ignore?
6. Anything I'm not thinking of that I'll need/should ask to see?
I have already decided that if I do pay them myself, I will do so only via mailed in money order. I will NOT provide them any checks with my bank account info, and I will NOT allow them to deduct anything from my back account.
Thanks in advance.
Don't give your SS number, not a single part of it to Ameriloan,
Don't give your SS number, not a single part of it to Ameriloan, they are illegal, they are Internet criminals and will sell off your info to others. I sure hope this works out in your favor, illegal lenders don't negotiate, they might tell a debt solution company they will negotiate, but in the grand scheme of things, the outcome will be the same as if you had not hired them. They will claim you owe them, they will harass you and they will share or sell off your personal info to others.

1. Is there any harm in giving them the last four of my social? Much harm!
2. How much am I legally obliged to pay them back? Whatever you borrowed, less any payments already made, they are not entitled to interest and fees because they do not have the proper licensing required by the state of TX.
3. I assume they will try to tack some hellacious interest on this. Are they entitled to it? NO!
4. What sort of documents do they have to provide to show what I'm legally obliged to pay? They won't.
5. Are there any sort of 'BS' documents they might whip up which I should ignore? Many! They will tell you that you are governed by the law of DE or Utah, but they aren't even licensed in those states, I already checked.. They will tell you that they are sending a process server to your house, that you will be arrested, or they are pressing charges for a bad check, hard to tell what they will try, but it's all LIES.
