CashNet USA in Illinois....What's the scoop? Are they legal? I have a friend who had a loan with them and due to some other illegal loans, she has closed her bank account and this one called today and said they were suing her and then later she got another call saying it was a law firm, but they didn't leave a name. Just wondering what the scoop was on them in particular.

Thanks for any insight!
Tiffany

Yes, they are legal, but your friend shouldn't admit to owing the debt over the phone. If she received a call from an attorney, that would make them a 3rd party collector, this means they must follow the FDCPA. Tell your friend to tell this attorney to send a dunning letter in the mail within 5 days, it's the law, and tell her to tell them, she is counting. She probably won't ever receive it, but if she does, it will then give her 30 days to send them a debt validation letter, make them validate the debt!
