No one can check your credit without your permission. You can add a fraud alert to your credit report which will help you in protecting your credit information. However, consumers normally place a fraud alert in case of identity theft.

If they are holding an account of yours then they have permissible purpose to pull your file. How long ago was the pull and does Asset have a collection account on your credit reports? If it has been some time since the pull and there is no account from them on your reports, you can send the CRAs a 'non permissible purpose' dispute letter. If it gets verified you request procedures from the CRAs and find out who verified the info then you send them the same letter, disputing their right to look at your report.
Now if they hold an account of yours but for some reason did not post it to your reports, it could resume active collections and the account may suddenly appear and you would have to dispute that as well.
If they have no purpose then you demand they immediately remove it.
