First, you cannot go to jail for an unpaid debt. If you could, then over half of the population would be in jail. This sounds like a complete scam. Don't pay them any money over the phone. I would contact your bank to let them know you have been a victim of fraud and that someone has your bank account number. They can advise you what to do from there. They may have you close that account and open another one. File a complaint with the FTC. You can do that online. And then if they call again, tell them you have filed a complaint with the FTC and unless they stop harassing you and your husband, you will will pursue any and all legal actions against them and then hang up.

Have you ever taken out a PDL, esp. online? Unfortunately a lot of the companies share their information with these bottomfeeder collectors. Do what Lizzie says, file those complaints with FTC, your State Attorney Generals' office, and your State financial regulatory agency. If they call again, do not admit over the phone to owing any money; tell them that they MUST send you something in writing. More than likely the caller isn't even in the United States, they're probably working from a phone bank in India or someplace.
