I received notification via mail that my hsbc card in the amount of $10.972.94 had been turned over to John P Frye, who has a client named Atlantic Credit & Finance.

I contacted them via telephone. Basically, they sent me an email offer of settlement of the account in the amount of $7,681.06 (with a deadline of Wed. to accept the offer). I have never been turned over to collections, but to due to various financial setbacks, it happened.

Do I settle, take time...what? Any assistance would be beneficial.

Thanks,

Inirene

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!
First of all, it is important to confirm whether the account has really been turned to John P Frye. So, don't make any hasty decisions or make payments now. Send a written request to validate the validate the debt. If they do validate the debt, then you'll get to know the total debt amount, payment history, etc. After that you can negotiate a settlement with them to lower the payoff amount ($7,681,06) further. You can check out the following page to know about how to settle the debt:

You can also get help from a reliable settlement company to settle the debt. However, if the collection agency can't prove that you really owe money to them, then send a cease and desist letter via certified mail. You don't need to make any payments to them.
