Hi! I finally joined the community but have read on this site for sometime. A company called DRS and associates called and left message on my house phone saying they were filing a civil complaint against me but when I called back I don't even know what it's for but I am assuming it's a payday loan. I just recently lost both my parents end of December unexpectedly. They died nine days apart and my grandma died the 10th day. I'm very nervous about this company but I am just now trying to figure out who is still owed. I am also lien and judgement proof a bankruptcy lawyer told me, but want to pay whatever I legally owe after monthly payments for funeral expenses are done. I was hospitalized for heart stress due to the 3 deaths in my family and my dr has told me to stay away from stress? Is there anything I need to do immediately to protect myself? Sorry this post is so long but I live in California and truly appreciate your advice.

Thank You,
Kim

Kim, first I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how hard it is to lose your parents. Take care of yourself.

DRS & Associates are a collection agency that does not play nice. I would call them and ask them what company they are representing and for their address. Then, I would send them a debt validation letter via certified/return receipt. Is this for a payday loan or what type of bill is it? If it is for a payday lender, find out the name of the lender as if they are not licensed to do business in your State, then morally you only obligated to pay back the principal balance. But first things first, call them and find out who they are collecting for and their address. Keep us posted.
