Anyone Closed their Chase Bank Account Lately?
Date: Wed, 02/16/2011 - 09:38
I have Chase and am thinking of closing it to stop the ACH withdrawls. I have seen on this board that many people have had issues with Chase. I dont want to tell them why i am closing it exactly. I may tell them my account info was stolen or something of that nature and i am concerned about unauthorized withdrawls. When i emailed Chase about closing my account, they said that any ACH attempts MIGHT re-open my account. I have read the post about closing your account on here, but i am curious about anyones recent experiences with them.
Thanks!

I just called Chase to see what they would say. They told me that after a week, nothing should go thru. Is this what happened to the rest of you?
Make sure you have the name of the Rep who told you this.

They did tell me that it takes 24-48 hours to close the account once you request it. I dont know if thats how or why peoples accounts are being reopened.

I just closed my bank account with them on 02/09/11. I went in person and told them my account had been compromised. They set up a new account and said that it would take 24 hrs for it to show as closed. On 02/11/11 (payday), all the fees for PDL's came out. I contacted the rep with the bank that I had been dealing with and she said they would bounce back as not paid. Sure enough on Monday, 02/14/11, everything had bounced back and I started getting phone calls from the lenders, which I am handling on my own.

good to know! Thank you for your reply. I know that transactions with them show as pending, and then they put them thru or deny them. Do you have overdraft prtotection on your account? I dont, so im sure they wouldnt pay them. I just dont want to get a bunch of fees.

The whole process was not smooth. If I could do things over, I would have contacted my HR department and requested a paper check instead of direct deposit. When I met with the bank rep, we went over all pending transactions so that they could go through the account with no problem. At that time, I had three checks and one debit transaction pending as well as two direct deposits going in on 02/11/11. The direct deposits went in on 02/11/11 into the closed account. I called the rep and she said the deposits were basically in limbo. They had to be rejected by the closed account first and then they would redirect them into the new account, but that could not happen until Tuesday, which meant I had no access to any money until then. Later that day, she called me back and said she made some phone calls and was able to get some money transferred over, but not all of it. On Tuesday, I had to call her back so that she could move the rest of the money over. The whole process took nearly a week to complete. They were able to link my existing debit card to my new account because the card number had not been compromised. Make sure you have cash on hand before you close your account and ask your HR department for a paper check before you close your account so your money doesn't sit in limbo somewhere. I do have overdraft protection on my account. Chase states that even if you don't have overdraft protection, they will allow ACH debits to go through sometimes, which is stupid. I never got any fees from this whole process, but I think the key to that was letting them know that my account had been compromised. Hope I helped!

You did help! I actually already have another bank account set up and direct deposit going into that. I think i will be ok. I am going to make sure there is no usuage on my card for several days before i close it, to make sure there wont be the possibilty of any pending transactions. I do plan on opening another account with them maybe a week or so after the fact.

I am having a lot issues with them. They do not seem to want to help their customers that much.
