debt agency, write off and need help.

ok I lost my job two years ago and finally found a ft job and I have to drive an hour but the health ins is great. Ok- so I contact a debt agency and recd a letter today and she said most of my debt is in a charge off status. And than said I had a 39,000medical bill which shoudlnt be on my report thats the insurance comp fault as they werent billing the correct ins company, thats been taken care of.(i better check now) Any way she told me she cant help me. Is this normal? I work 10 hour days and would like to sent a letter asking/telling that I found a job and now need to get these debts paid. How or what should I do?
