well if you have caller id on your home and cell don't answer any number that doesn't look familiar.next if they call at work hang up without a word, and keep hanging up.you might even consider changing your home and cell number.both will do it for free if you explain the situation.if that isn't an option then do as advised before.if a number looks unfamiliar don't answer it.

Yeah absolutely, they called each of my numbers...work home and cell. But I made the mistake of calling them back without blocking my cell and hung up when I realized who they were. They the flood gates opened! Today I have received 2 so far.

I checked the phone # given above on the 'net and it appears that these ARE scammers. Possibly they were given your information from one of your PDL companies. Do what paulmergel says; either don't answer or hang up; they can't threaten a dial tone.

They go through spurts. I figure that if I don't answer they will not keep calling and it works for the most part. Luckily they don't call me at work. But after a year, I am thinking that the only answer is to change my number. I am now getting numbers that are goofy. Instead of only having 10 digits in the phone number my caller idea is showing 11 so that you can't even tell what the real number is or it will say 0000 or No ID.

Do you have caller ID at work? If you see it's one of them, pick it up and say nothing and then push the star * key. They will get a shreiking in their ear. Keep doing this and they'll stop. If you don't have caller ID, once they start calling, push that star key.
I had pdls, creditors and collection agencies calling my cell phone. I would let the calls go to voice mail and return the ones to the banks. (no pdls). If the voice mail didn't give a company name, I deleted it.
No one had my home phone number. I suggest you get your home phone number changed. and if you really want to stop your calls, change your cell phone number.
For the time being, let unknown calls go to voice mail and get your sanity back.

Does eveyone agree that ignoring the calls is better??? So I shouldnt call back and start threatening??? I feel like such a victim. My cell phone I dont answer. Work doesnt have caller id and my house phone, we have had it for 20 years and really isnt an option. I never gave my home number that is what is crazy. I always put my cell phone and work number on applications.

Anyone can do an internet search and get someone's home phone number. Also can get it from social networking sites if one doesn't have the proper privacy in place.
If they are all pdls, ignore them. They will go away. If you answer at work, just hang up, or give them the * key.

BallplayerMom: I had this happen to me. I answered "Federal Bureau of Investigation" These people are scammers Or an illegal payday loan. Call your cell provider and have them blocked. As for work I would check on that too. Or just play with them when they call, call Their number every 5 minutes and harrass them. Report this to your local Police and BBB too.

Blocking the # might work but so many of these outfits operate with several numbers, it might be easier just to change your phone #. Keep hanging up on them; why waste your time calling them back? It won't do anything but waste your time. If they're calling at work, hang up the minute you hear who it is. Or, if your work phone shows the incoming call, pick it up just for a second and then hang up.
I'm betting since we're getting into tax refund time, everybody will be getting lots more of these calls, also from PDLs' you've defaulted with; they'll give you "generous" offers to pay what THEY say you owe with your tax refund check!
Indian Phone Scams
Hi - I haven't been on for a while also - I defaulted on pdl's back in September - October 2010, some I got PIF, some no response - and I think 2 refunds, however,
I to receive the phone calls from people with heavy accents, I don't pick up or call back, luckily at my job I'm able to let my calls go to voice mail and if I get caught off
guard, I act like I can't hear them and just keep saying Hello, Hello, a few times and then hang up.... I'll get calls for about a week then it will stop for a while, then I might
get a couple more. but I DO NOT pick up or call back at all. at home I have caller ID
so like most people if it shows up unknown, unavaible or I do not reconize it i let it go to voice mail, and most times whoever it is just hangs up, once in awhile they leave their message about me or my attorney needs to contact them and all they can do is wish me luck if I don't respond -
and I do keep a log of the times and #'s in case I'll ever need it.
I would have to say I recommand not to pick up or call back.
and I know it is stressful, but I'm out of PDL hell and my paycheck is getting back to
normal - and that is what keeps me going, and I REFUSE to deal with this scumbags.....

I also say, keep hanging up on them. But a death threat? I'd report THAT call to my local police. Just goes to show, though, these low-lifes will stop at nothing to get people to send them money.

Please ignore these calls. They truly are scams. I was scared to and answered that was a huge mistake. Let them leave there threatening voice mails. Just dont talk to them.

hey the number looks familar to me and the area code is in my area which is philadelphia, and south philly to be exact! hang in there my dear!!!
If you have a cell phone, your cell phone should have a setting
If you have a cell phone, your cell phone should have a setting where you can reject numbers from coming to your phone, thats what I did to reject numbers like that
All You Can Do Is Ignore Them
They also can obtain your information from any application you have filled out online whether it be for a credit card, car loan, etc. I have an android phone and there is an application for both android and i-phone called Mr. Number that you can block phone numbers. You can set it to answer and hang up on them or you can set it to send it to voice mail.
They do go in spurts and they should be winding down some soon since tax season is over but they will ramp up again when the holiday season arrives.
I always hang up on them. I have reported them to every agency possible and have been told by both the FBI and Secret Service offices in my area that there isn't anything they can do about them because they are coming from overseas phone banks.
I have also discovered recently that some use the magic jack. So you can't call them before or after a certain time. Normally they are an 8 to 5 kind of caller. They always seem to like to call you either first thing in the morning, right at lunch time, or close to when you leave to head home from work.
Hopefully, they will quiet down some soon and maybe one day they will be caught, really the mastermind behind all of this needs to be caught and sent to jail or what ever the place is in the area they live.
phone scam
Hello,
I just saw your post and thought I would tell you what I did because as I read yours it sounded exactly like what I would have posted up until last week!!!!
I dealt with idiots (mainly the same one, just used a different name or tel #) for months on end, I even went to my local police dept and they spoke directly to him advising him to stop calling, but to no avail it continued!
Finally after repoting him to the FTC, Attny General, and Homeland Security I got some answers. According to Homeland Security these are in fact Indian College kids that are taking English as a second language,(not very well though) and comprehend it even less!
The gentleman that I spoke with told me that there is a 12 hour difference between here and India so they are working during their night time hours just to harrass us!
WELLLLLL..... That was all it took for me to decide that I needed to get back at him after all of the threatening and harrassing calls I had recieved.
I gave his number to everyone that I know and we called his phone at every hour of the day, telling him he had been caught and hanging up, then another person would call and ask for one hung low, and when this moron said there was nobody there by that name, she said oh you arent hung low??? no wonder you have nothing better to do than call and scam us, and hung up. we continued to do this for days on end, and not sure if it was continuously calling him, or the officials.... but every since I have not heard a word from him!!!! guess he found out what it feels like to be constantly called and annoyed!!!!!:D
