The good news is that it was my biggest debt, so maybe I can get a better settlement with them.
I've read all the horror stories about them, but has ANYONE ever actually settled with them?
Any idea of why it was charged off so soon?

Just because it was charged off, doesn't necessarily mean that the original creditor doesn't still own it. I know that sounds weird but it does happen. Does WWR actually own the debt or are they working on behalf of your original creditor?

When I talked to the OC a little while ago, they transferred me to another dept., and they gave me WWR's #. I said "so you no longer hold the debt" and he said "correct, you will have to deal with them from now on".

I haven't called them back. I hear it's best to just stay off the phone with them. I'm going to send them a partial cease and desist letter, so they will at least stop calling. After I receive the dunning letter, I will then DV them.
Will this way work?

There's no such thing as a partial C&D. It's all or nothing. If they call again and you haven't received a Dunning letter, tell them they are required to send you a letter of collection. Once you receive it, send a DV and go from there.
