Jacobson and associates called threatening to fax my employer hr.

I received a message from the "director of a firm"Jacobson and Associates in new york saying they had a civil suit that changed status and wanted to inform me of my settlement options before they faxed , at the request of their client, information to their district office in columbus oh, lorain county( which is the county in ohio i live in ) my work hr department, and chex systems. Now after a little searching, I think they are notorius for this stuff. I know it is in regards to a payday loan. I used the methods from this site and sent out letters and complaints to all the illegal lenders (I am in ohio) almost a year ago and closed bank accounts. Other than phone calls I have recieved no paid in fulls, but they also have got no more money. So my question is how to handle them. Does anyone have experience with them? Will they fax anything to my work hr? I work for a city government and the department number I work at was the only number I gave on the application. So they'd basically have to fax the mayors office- which I do not want. Will they realistically do this or is it a scare tactic? or chex systems(and why chex systems?)? I am not sure which company they are representing at the moment. I am aware that they are not allowed to threaten certain things.


I was called by Jacobson & Associates on August 24th and a voice mail was left by a Madison Walker stating that they had documentation there with a civil claim pending. Madison left a call back number for 855-571-1745 X106. I called back at and spoke with Jeff Byco who said that Madison was his secretary and stated that the debt was from a payday loan in the amount of $598.45. He said he was authorized to take a partial payment if I wanted to take care of this today and they would report the payment to my credit report. I stated that I had just recently pulled my credit report and the debt was not listed on there and I asked him to send a letter of collection within 5 days from today so that I could verify the debt. He refused and started harassing me and saying he did not have time to answer my questions and that the company would get their money one way or another. He would not let me ask him anything and would not let me speak. He also refused to give me the company mailing address and threatened to have the debt attached to me and that they would send information to my work also. He stated I should look them up online at http://www.jacobsonandassociates.biz/ . He then hung up on me. Before calling them I had looked up the company and phone number online and found that they had used threatening and intimidation that was against the FDCPA. I was only asking for some proof of what I was dealing with so I could respond accordingly. I did not want to be giving any of my information over the phone especially if this was a fraud case.

Afterward I filed complaints with the FTC & also the Attorney General.
