I have been working with a debt management company (EMA) since June. I have been informed that one of my loans is going to default. I have paid the company thousands of dollars and apparently they have done nothing to rectify my debt. My attempts to reach the company as well as my creditors have been to no avail. I have contacted the BBB, FTC and the attorney general with very little satisfaction. I still am not certain that the company isn't holding out for a settlement, but I maintain very little hope of this. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you told the creditor that your account is with a debt settlement company? Is there any possible way you can settle directly with the creditor and stop sending payments to the debt settlement company? This is what apparently happens with some debt management companies; they take the money and run.

Has your debt management company settled your other debts?

Contact your original creditors and inform them about the issue. Stop making further payments to the debt management company. The company seems to be a scam. If you have filed a complaint with FTC, BBB, etc then they will surely take action against the company after conducting a proper investigation. Just have patience and wait for a few days. In the mean time, try to settle to debts on your own. You can read through the following page to know about the steps to settle your debts on your own:
