I agree, it sounds like a scam; just curious, do you have the phone #? It may be familiar to others here who've received similiar calls.

Don’t get scared. This is one of the most popular scare tactics used by the scammers. If they call you again, then ask them to send the debt validation. If you still don’t get any reply, send a cease and desist letter. If you don’t owe any money to them, I doubt they will send you a dv letter or file lawsuit against you.

First. Investigate. Cash Net USA has a website. If you did actually borrow from them you will be able to pull up your account. Owing money regardless of the amount is not a felony. If you wrote an actual check to purchase an item for over $1000, then that would be a felony and it would be your local DA's office handling that. I bet they had an accent. I get calls regularly and they always give the name of a company that sounds close to one that I might have done business with. I just tell them that I know it is a scam and that I am contacting the police department. If they don't hang up first then I hang up.

If the account has been charged off and/or is in collections, you won't be able to pull it up on their website. You need to call CNUSA and find out if they've sent an account of yours to collections. They are a legal lender so, if you owe them money you need to work out payment arrangements with them. Sounds to me as if they've sold this off to some scummy collection agency who's trying to fleece you. Whether it's a legit debt or not, do NOT pay this collection agency.
