Well...since I've started reading and accepting advice here, I've settled about $70K in cc debt for about $25K total.

Citibank was easiest to deal with and held more than half of that total and they settled very quickly in one lump sum amount for each card. Very nice, very easy, no pain.

Chase held about $20K and they were only marginally more difficult.

So...

Discover is at about $6K but refuse to talk about settling, telling me that they do not settle. I know this is untrue but don't bring that up...just keep on calling week after week and offering gradually-increasing amounts. I'm at about 30% now and waiting to hear back. Anyone have advice on dealing with Discover?

BoA is a problem. I have about $15K with them and this is, I am ashamed to say, all cash advances over the last two years as it was an overdraft protection on our main checking account. I vainly held on to the notion that I was going to get much-promised bonuses and we didn't curtail spending until my wife actually LOST her job and we started on first a bk road and then decided to try debt settlement as opposed to Ch 13. BoA refuses to talk settlement right now. Any advice?

I have some other very minor accounts and will pay those at whatever I need to pay them to get rid of them or even go ahead and string them out and eventually take care of them but they are minor. The $21K or so listed above is my biggest concern right now. With success in dealing with Citibank and Chase, I'm really disappointed in not being able to do so fairly readily with these others.

I'm at about 120-130 days, I think. Somewhere in there, anyway.

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

Normally BOA is easy to settle with. Anyway, if Discover does not give you any reply, then you can increase the settlement offer slightly. I think you are not being able to negotiate properly. May be the problem lies there. You can check out the following page to know about the steps to settle your debts on your own:

You may be having trouble with BofA because they were cash advances; however, you still have time to go. I settled one account with them prior to chargeoff at 35% and the other went to a collection agency who proceeded to violate every regulation. After complaining to BofA and filing a lawsuite, BofA recalled the debt and I settled at 33%.

I settled with Discover at 50% with them taking out monthly payments until the debt was satisfied. I would read the posts of other who have settled with these creditors and see if you can apply their strategies.

Keep us posted as any results are encouraging to others going through the settlement process.
