AACC, CBE, Unifund CCR

We got sucked into making a deal with them for a debt that was almost past the SOL in 2006. We paid the down payment they demanded, and $100 a month until last spring. They had stopped sending us payment coupons, and we asked them if we were done. They said that we were, and we requested a letter of receipt of the debt. We heard nothing from them.
Monday we got a letter saying we defaulted, and that they were pursuing a judgment against us. I am pissed off in a big way. They are demanding nearly nine thousand dollars from us. The law firm they work for is Pollock and Rosen, and Pollock and Rosen also own another entity called Unifund CCR Partners. The AACC number that has been calling us is a fake number. They have been calling 4 to 5 times a day. We don't have that kind of money, and would not balk at paying what we still owe on that contract even though they are a bunch of lowlife thugs. They lied to us.
We need some help.

Did you get the agreement in writing? Do you have proof of your payments? Has Pollack and Rosen sent you anything in writing? Can they validate the debt?

We did have an agreement in writing that our lawyer wrote up with them. We did send all of the payments in. We checked that out on our past bank statements. What we discovered was that they had not cashed all of the checks.
I found another person online who had the same thing happen.
