I took out 2 pdl last week. Once is due on 4/1 and the other is 4/15. After reading this forum I'm just scared to deal with these companies. Can I just close my account and not pay them anything? What could they do?

What are the name of the companies? Do they have license to operate in your state? Are payday loans legal in your state? Even if the lenders are illegal, you'll have to pay the principal amount. You can put a hard debit check on your account if the pdl companies are withdrawing money illegally. You can also close the account in such a scenario. If pdls are legal in your state and the lenders do have license to operate in your state, then you are responsible for making payments on the loans. If you don't repay the loans, then the lenders can take legal action against you.

From what I've read, internet lenders aren't licensed to lend in RI. I went to my local Bank of America branch and opened a new account. They put a freeze on my old account to allow deposits only. When my direct deposit transfers to my new account, I will close the old one. I explained my situation to the representative and they were very helpful. One of the lenders tried to write a $520.00 electronic check from my old account yesterday after I have already paid more than the principal. I am starting to receive ridiculous calls at work too but I know they are just trying to scare me. They claim they are the 'crime bureau of investigation'. They told me to 'notify myself' because I will be arrested either at work or at home. Obviously they can't speak the English language very well either.
