If the original credit card company turned over the debt to a collection agency, who then sold it to someone else, who then sold it to someone else so is now served me, are the last people representing the original card company or themselves?

It depends on whether or not the original creditor still retains your account. Some creditors just have a collection agency collect for them, while retaining the account. Others sell it. When one collection agency isn't successful, the account is returned and then given to another.

You can find out by calling the original creditor and asking if your account was assigned or sold and to whom.
