Ok folkss, here's a good one. I got a letter from Island National Group today. They say they already sent me a letter saying that they are collection on an RJM Acquisitions account -- which was originally a Fingerhut account. Uh huh, ok so as I read through this letter it says they are offering me a deal!! Uh huh $37 off my balance with my first payment, then each time I make a payment I will get another coupon for more $$ off my balance. What's the catch you might ask?? PER THEIR LETTER TO ME - the last payment I made on this account was January 23, 1998~~~ Ok so not only have I disputed this on my credit report and asked them to take it off, I am sending a letter to Island National telling them that the SOL for this account has long been passed (4 years here in FL) and that they need to take the report off of my account immediately. According to my report this still isn't due to come off until the end of this year... I don't think so. Even at 7 years it should have fallen off last year. Unbelieveable how they try to get you snagged back into starting the whole process over again. Thanks to this Forum I know better. Thanks!

Terrell,

If rjm acquisitions does not report your account off, it should get erased from your credit file automatically as 7 year reporting time is over. So if this account is found in your credit file, dispute it with bureaus. You can dispute any item online with CRA too. Vies this video to know the process in details-

As per as the collection agency is concerned, you have thought out the right strategy. No one can compel you to pay a past SOL debt. Send them letter to cease all collection efforts on this account.
