It is understandable that they want to grab the 401k loan...,she is paying HERSELF back instead of her creditors. Not unreasonable at all. If you back out now the creditors will come back at full force...plus the BK damage is already done....a dismissed BK still stays on your report.
Do not waste your money on a settlement company....it you choose this route, do it yourself!

Greetings and welcome to the forums.
I'll answer your questions based on my debt settlement experience.
Your question; "If we back out, how nasty will all the creditors get if we try to deal with them on our own, or should we?"
My answer; is that they'll get fired up again once the bk stay is lifted. You've probably had the non stop telephone calls demanding money before you filed. Nothing new.
You can certainly settle with these guys but you've got to be aware that these beasts may be quicker to sue. And on the other hand they may be quicker to settle!
However you have filed for bk once already. And that's in your favor as you can always tell them that chptr 13 wasn't for you and that you are looking into filing a chptr 7 where they will get nothing!
In closing, you can settle the cc debt yourself.
Please keep up posted as your situation is very interesting!

Thanks guys for the replys. Still uncertain as to what I'm going to do, one concern I have is the tax implication with settling, how bad will I get hit, if, say, I manage to settle a 60K debt (total) for 30K? Also, I don't have cash on hand to settle, that's another worry..
