I received a notice from Afni to collect a debt that I thought I had paid, but I do not have proff. They will let me settle for $100.00, but the debt is less than a $1000.00.I want to know if the SOL has run for New York? The debt was made in 2004.If I settle ,how can I be sure they will not contact me again?

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

If you really owe the debt, then the SOL will start from the first date of default. If you owe the debt and the SOL period is not yet over, then you can settle the debt. You should ask for a written settlement agreement from them before you pay any money. You should retain all the payment receipts with you. This way, if they again contact you regarding the debt, then you can show the payment receipt to them. You should also ask them to update the account status on your credit report.
