Do I have the right to ask for information in writing from anyone who calls claiming to have a legal suit or collection against me? I had a call from a "lawyer" who stated he was calling about a payday loan and when I started asking from information in writing said I would not be getting anything, this is not a scam, etc. I simply asked for a phone number to call back when I could from a more private phone since I was at work.

Yes, you do have the right to ask them to validate the debt in writing. It may be the case that the collection agency is trying to intimidate you. If they have really filed lawsuit against you, then you will receive court papers.
