I got a call from an unknown number. It was a woman saying they received a fax to take legal action. They wanted to set up a time to meet so I could be served. Otherwise, they would serve me at home or work. They said I could call the plaintfiff's at 777-599-8744. Any chance this is a real threat? I googled and other people have gotten similar calls.

So you know NO ONE calls ahead to tell you they will serve you. Real process servers do NOT do that. Did you have a PDL-if so odds are thats why they are calling-tons of PDL scammers out there. Ignore the call or take it and you will see thats why they are calling. If they start off with the basic threats-you must pay $-- NOW or you will be served, then its for sure a scam. Do not ever give out bank info to a voice on the phone. If they are legit then when you ask for a letter of validation then will send it to you. If they fight that or claim they already sent one or they cant do that UNTIL AFTER you make a payment--then know its a scam!!

Alot of PDL scammers use the trick of you have a bad check charge fraud case against you to scam for money from PDL debtors. When they call back answer if you wish and here is a couple things to know in speaking to them: If they start off with threats of arrest, jail and immediate garnishment or they want to meet up or schedule a time to meet to serve you--then its a scam, if they refuse to give you an address to send a DV letter--then its a scam. PDL's are not checks and are not treated as such by an state, even the few that are legal-as most- 99% of them are illegal and only owe what was borrowed. Answer if you want but if they refuse to give an address, DEMAND immediate payment NOW or you will be sued, or say they cant send any paperwork UNTIL you make a payment--then know its a scam and hang up ignore further calls and file appropriate cases
