My guess is, if they haven't yet served you then they will not. If it gets reported to a credit bureau dispute the heck out of it. Report them to your states Attorney General and the FTC. If you never took this loan, then you owe them nothing, and by deducting anything from your account they have commited theft. I'd consider hiring a lawyer to bring a civil suit against them as well....either that or file a claim in your local small claims court. Make them come to you and fight it.

soap lady...I work too. I'm knew to this and was also trying to get help from "live chat" where it said I was connected to an expert, and the expert said hi and then didn't reply for 15 minutes before I closed the window. Thank you.
Stop PDLs--I was reading other threads on this site and other people have had problems with SSM Group. The advice given to those people was that SSM Group is not a licensed lender so they cannot legally collect anything at all. I was just wondering if it is the same in my state (Illinois) or does it matter?

You need to file complaints with your state's attorney general's office and also the FTC. You can file with the BBB as well if you like but they can't really do anything to help you. I would send an illegal lender letter and tell them you'd like a refund of the $150 that was taken above and beyond the principal of the loan amount. Tell them you never asked for the loan but, since they deposited money into your account (without your authorization) that you feel it's only fair to give them back the amount they deposited. Tell them you've filed complaints and give them the complaint numbers. You're not going to be sued and, if you are, these people are idiots because they'll be arrested if they show up in court. If this guy calls again, tell him that, unless he sends you something in writing showing you actually owe this debt, he can FOAD. After that, don't bother answering when he calls. The more attention you give them, the more persistent they become.
P.S. The "live chat" function connects you to an "expert" from one of the debt management companies, not a forum subject-matter expert.

Please follow Ohiogirls' advice and file those complaints. You said you'd never taken out a loan with SSM, have you ever taken out a payday loan at all? Unfortunately, a lot of these illegal outfits share their customers' information.
If you in fact did not take out the loan at all, then they stole
If you in fact did not take out the loan at all, then they stole the money from your account. File with your State AG, FTC, BB, and a criminal report with local authorities. Even if they deposited it in your account "by mistake" then the best they can hope for is have the bank reverse that deposit, not withdraw it on their own. So if youy did not take out the loan, they are guilty of theft.
If you did, even by accident (apply for one, get the pop up, click accept without realizing it was a different company type thing). Then you have every right to dispute it and only pay the principle amount they deposited, nothing else. Again, file with the AG, FTC, BBB but not the local authorities. Talk it over with your bank to discuss options for stopping their access. As far as the "legal" aspect in IL, you would need to look up IL pay day lending laws, if they require a license, see if they are licensed etc. There should be state sites with all of that information. This would only apply if you took out the loan, either on purpose or accident. If you know for a fact you have never filled out anything, or e-signed anything with these people then it is theft and pursue criminal and civil actions against them.

The only thing I can remember is, I applied for a loan from money mutual, but I was denied, and never gave it a second thought. I didn't put two and two together until about a month ago, because I was trying to figure out where this SSM Group would have gotten all my information? Is it possible that money mutual gave SSM Group my information? I already know for a fact that SSM Group is not licensed to lend in any state...so I guess I just have to find out if, in Illinois, the lender HAS to be licensed? Thank you very much. I was pretty sure it was just another scare tactic, but I wanted to be certain. My account has been closed since December and that's when I started getting calls from these "lawyers" and "collection agencies".
