Question regarding deposit only status

My question is, I see advice given on putting a bank account on deposit only status. How do I do this? Do all banks do this service? Will I be charged fees for returned checks?
Thank you very much for your responses!

well the DEPOSITS ONLY is only if your account is overdrawn because of the pdl's already,or if you can't close the account because of other bills.as far as i know all banks can do that, but you must see the branch manager for this nobody else.hope that helped.

I am in fact unable to close the bank account. I currently have overdraft protection that is used up, in the amount of $900. The bank wants me to pay that off completely before they will close the account.

Awesome, will do that. I had figured it would only be a temporary measure. Ultimately I'm looking for something to keep my account from getting absolutely wrecked and reported to Chexsystems, and any other issues that could come out of debits gone hectic, while I work with my state's AG on confronting the lenders. Thanks!
Be sure you talk to the bank manager about what's going on; odds
Be sure you talk to the bank manager about what's going on; odds are good they've heard similiar stories before. As far as fees for returned checks, etc., it would depend on the individual bank. A good idea is to write down a list of your questions and concerns before you visit the bank; if you're like me, there'll always be something you forget to ask while you're there! :)
