I have a $900 loan($1100 after fees) with a store front AA in Texas. I simply cannot afford the finance charges any longer- this has been going on for over a year. The settlement companies I have called seem shady. I called AA last Friday and asked if I could work out a payment arrangement- and was told no way. The cashier said if I didn't bring money in, it would go "to the next level". My checking account is now closed; should I call again and tell her that? I don't know what to do and I am embarrassed about the whole situation. My husband does not know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The next level is thier collections department. My suggestion is to call the corporate office. It would be best to avoid the collections department and try to get to thier RDO (Regional Director of Operations) ar atleast the DDO (Divisional Director of Operations) to explain the situation and try to make payments. If neither of them can or will assist, try to get to a VP.

Was your loan that was sent to collections done through an Advance America store? Mine is; they have a check and a bunch of my information. The check won't clear; I'm concerned about the harassment before they go to collections. This has been going on so long that I can't remember what was on my application, and no way do I make enough money for a $900 cash advance. This has caused me many sleepless nights and I feel totally alone, because I haven't told anyone. I'm grateful I found this website; I need to stop this cycle. I'm not trying to get out of paying what I owe; I want to pay it off. Should I call the store and tell them to "take it to the next level"? It sounds like it might be easier to work with collections. Thanks again, Marie-Claire, TX

You responded to my previous post regarding Advancd America; could you tell me your story? I had no luck calling the corporate office and I received a voice mail on Sat asking me to come in today to pay my finance charges AND late fees. I cannot even afford the finance charges. I am a wreck; since they have a check that was postdated for my checking account that is closed, should I call the store? Or let them try to cash it? I want to pay this off in installments; they denied my epp request. It sounds easier to just default and let it go to collections.

You need to be creative to get to the DDO or RDO if you had no luck with Corp. They should have a toll-free number on the contract or posted in the store, try that or call another store in your area and ask for call back from the DDO or RDO. As for me, I have been in the business for 14 years, currently owning my own stores. AA will keep your account in the store for a while, not sure on thier timeframe, then send to inhouse collections.

It will get returned! :)

Once it gets returned, they will call you and then you start negotiating the repayment. They will tell you that you must pay it all at once, but you would hve done that if you had the ability. Stand your ground, make relaistic payments on a regular schedule and before you know it, it will be paid. Thier end goal is to get the balance paid.

Ok, I didn't show up for yesterday's appointment, and no one called me today. I assume they tried to cash my check today. Does anyone know what will happen next? I want to set up a payment plan, but don't want to deal with the girl at the store who has already turned down my request. I also was insuccessful with the corporate office. Do I just wait for a collections call? Will anyone come to my house? I am worried again. Thanks.

They will continue to try to cash your check if the account is open. The calls will continue to all of the numbers listed, including your references and they may come to your home and work. Stick to your plan and make the payments, they should not send any payments back, as they just want to get thier money. It will be over soon, not fun but over.

The account is closed. I haven't received any calls yet, I assume because they haven't received the check back from the bank yet. I would be more than happy to set up payment arrangements- should I wait for someone from collections to call me? I would like to pay with money orders through the mail as I am not comfortable returning to the store. Will collections provide me with the total amount owed? I am worried about extra late fees/finance charges. I wish the store would have agreed to an EPP when I requested it. What a mess. What happens if someone comes to your home?

I answered on your other thread. Come to your house/work? That's insane! I pity the person that would do that to me! As PDL owner said, stand your ground. As scary as it sounds your going to have to default, go to collections and then make arrangments.
