I received a letter from Palisades collection on a debt charged off in 1985. I asked them to validate the debt which they responded that my account is in dispute and all collection activity has stopped. This account is not on my credit record, and I do not have any personal record of this debt. What are my next steps and do I need to hire an attorney to handle this.
