Hi Larissa--as you know, midland credit management is a collection agency---they usually purchase debts and then turn around and hire someone else to collect their debts for them. Yeah, a collection agency collecting for a collection agency. But thats what they do. Here is what I came up with---

If your credit report is showing four of the same debts, you will need to send a dispute to the three credit bureaus and point this out to them. If they are, in fact the same, they will remove three of them. hope I have helped. shirley
Often, collection agencies use illegal debt collection technique
Often, collection agencies use illegal debt collection techniques. If such offices can be shut down, we all can breathe sigh of relief. They can ruin anyone's credit without a feeling and resort to dirty and awful techniques. They have the nerve to harass people day and night and knowing the fact that they are violating the federal laws. This remarks breach of peace. We all have the rights to get justice and I believe that appropriate retaliation should be offered to all the citizens.

a bad debt can only be reported once, by one creditor or collection agency. If a debt is reported numerous times, file a dispute withthe Credit Reporting Agency and be sure and tell them it is a duplicate reporting. They will have 30 days to investigate, and delte duplicate entries . this is an easy fix, but doesnot change the fact that the debt should be resolved to clear up your report. If you decide to pay the debt, you may be able to bargain for a more favorable reportin (such as "paid" or "paid in full") which help your score more than "paid charge off " or "paid Collection"). IF they do agree to this , do not make payment until you receive in writting something saying they will report in that manner. By having it in writting, you can later dispute it if they don't update properly and have it changed yourself.

I am in this process right now with a collection agency. Its an older medical bill, but still within its SOL. I saw it on hubbies credit report, so I wrote them a letter telling them that if they will agree to update the account and show as paid on credit report, I will pay the debt off. They sent me validation-WOW-I actually got my first validation ever-and didn't even ask for it. (seems I can't get it when I do). But they said nothing of what I was asking of them. Now they have taken that and using it to harrass me by calling my home every day. I wrote them another letter explaining that they didn't agree to what I was asking them to do, if they will do that, I will pay. And I also pointed out that "I" contacted 'THEM' over this--in efforts to pay this debt off, they do not get to take this and harrass me with it now. And told them once again, no phone calls.
Now my question, since I do jump in here and try to help people, and the more I know the better quality help I can give---if I paid this debt anyway, without first getting them to agree to update report status to 'paid', couldn't I just dispute it with credit bureaus? They could contact the collection agency through their investigations and find that its paid and do the update themselves? I mean, wouldn't that be another option? maybe the longer route when it would just be simplier to get collectors to do it-you wouldn't have to dispute this way. But if all else fails, couldn't you point out to bureaus that debt is paid and get them to do the leg work? I mean, if you pay someone off and they don't update, wouldn't this be the way around it? thanks!! shirley

WEll, sometimes you have to decide whats worth the hassle . If you can get that little extra from them, great!!! The worst they can say is no! But if you are prepared to pay it now, talk to them and say "look i'll pay you if you agree to report it this way and put that intention if writting". If they say yes, then tell them as soon as you have confirmation of that agreement, you will send payment. If they say no, but the debt is still in SOL and you are willing ot pay, then you may have to take the lump and pay it. A "paid Collection" looks better than an "open collection".
Really by running off and reporting to CRA's , collection agencies are throwing away a great barganning tool. Once you put a mark on my Credit report me, what motive do I have to pay right away or pay the full amount??? Why not hold out for a settlement, my credit is already blemished anyway.
If you already reported me, work with me a little, and you may get paid more and possibly sooner than you might otherwise. CA's do have the authority and ability to make these kind of deals, if they choose to.

Disputes can be placed at any time when you find an entry incorrectly shown in the credit report. But since you have a legitimate debt that needs to be paid, you have less favorable points to bargain with the collection agency, but you have more points to dispute later if a need occurs. So, in any case, you will have to pay the debt, now or later, in case you are thinking of improving your credit. Disputes can be done later whenever required. If I had been in your place, I would have taken this matter in this way.

Well, its not a matter of me paying---thats not the problem, the problem is getting these two companies to talk to me! I have been trying for almost a year now to get something started in the way of monthly payments. In the matter of Wells Fargo-I just paid off one account with them but they won't talk to me about the other account. And I have learned the hard way not to just start sending money without first getting some type of agreement or something in writing saying they will accept payments. So it hasn't been about me 'dodging' these people, I have done anything but. Believe me, I want peice of mind. I want to know that I'm not about to be carted off to court facing garnishments or what have you. That is why I so desperately have tried to settle this and cover my behind. thanks, shirley

Is the office of Wells Fargo in the same place where you live? Sometimes we are unable to get the best results over the phone than we could have got it if we made a physical visit and talked to the person in concern. It's just my way of handing a situation in which you are finding yourself in.

I wrote my local wells fargo here in memphis--certified return receipt. I have yet to get my green card back from them, still waiting. They are the ones that the original loan came from. Shirley
Great, do let me know the response of Wells Fargo.
