I received a settlement payment offer from AFNI for a Quest phone bill. I paid the settlement amount thinking this would now close this account. Now I recevied a collection letter from another agency for the same debt saying I owe even more. Isn't the settlement amount a ligitament request or did they just do that to get money from me. What should I do?

Hi!
Welcome to the forums!

Seems like the account has been assigned to another collection agency. Are you sure that the account was really assigned to Afni? Did you ask them to validate the debt? Did you make any settlement agreement with Afni? Don't make any further payments in a hurry. First of all get to know about the collection agency to whom the account has been assigned and then make payments.

afni is a bottomfeeding JDB/JDC meaning they didn't really have legal right to collect on this.nelly is right do not pay on this until you get validation from this new collector.btw did you get a letter from afni after paying this?i'm guessing no.always demand validation before paying anyplace.always send a DV letter certified mail return receipt.do that and i'll bet you won't hear from this other place again.also check your credit report.if the debt isn't there it more than likely doesn't exist,or is past SOL.
