My bank account will reopen if there is any transactions to the account. My bank said there isn't a way for the account to be closed permanently. They seem very stingy. I don't want illegal payday lenders to take out money when I have an 0 balance. What can I do to avoid this situation.

What is the name of your bank?

That's simply ridiculous, if you no longer want to bank there, they can't force you by keeping your account opened. Tell them to close it or you will contact the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and file a complaint. Here are a list of resources:

You might like your bank but they are not doing you any favors. I have never heard of such nonsense and if it where me I'd close both accounts and stop banking with them. Then I'd file a complaint with the agency's who's information you've been provided in a previous post. Illegal Payday Lenders will try and access your account even once you tell them it's been closed and in your case with this bank they are saying it will reopen the account. That is BS and nonsense.

Based on what you said above, my understanding was they weren't going to ever close your account, and that's just not possible.

Sorry for all these posts.... but the bank said if any transaction is posted within 30 days of when the account is closed, it will reopen...

Within 30 days is probably your banks policy. What you need to do is take in a written statement naming each and every payday lender, and revoke all of their rights to debit your account per the EFTA (Electronic Funds Transfer Act). This is a federal law and the bank MUST honor this request, however, this written statement needs to be handed to the branch manager, no one else will do.
