How do I deal with Payday loans in PA? I have two that are digging a hole in my account and I need help paying them off!!

I am also in PA and going through this dliema.

It is not illegal to close your accounts. Who are the companies you have pdl's out with? They may come after you, but wont get far. They can take you to court and get a judgement against you, but they will only be awarded the original amount that was borrowed. They cannot charge interest or fees unless they are licensed in PA, which PDL's are not.

If they do take you to court, rest assured in this state you are protected. Do you own property? If so they can put a lein on the property. If you don't own much, just dodge them and don't worry about it. Close you bank account and tell your employer you only want paper checks. Cash these at Wal-Mart or a check cashing business. Use money orders to pay your bills or find pay in person locations. You cannot have your wages garnished in this state unless it is for IRS debt, child support, or rent/mortgage payments (and I think student loans). A judge can issue that a company levy your bank account, but if you don't have one...

Trust me when I say there isn't much a pdl company will do to you in Pennsylvania. They will be annoying and harrassing. They will use every ploy in the book to scare you and threaten you to pay them, but F them.

If you have already paid your original debt off, write the companies and tell them you demand a Paid in Full letter and a refund if you overpaid. Chances are you wont get a refund, but a PIF letter is assuring enough.

Good luck in your PDL battle. Come to this site and leave well armed to battle these scumbags. It helped me greatly.
