I am trying to pay off several payday loans. I live in Illinois. No matter how hard I try it is getting more and more difficult. The stress is killing me and I don't even like to see payday coming. In the midst of it all, I am getting calls from a man with a foreign accent being mean and telling me that he is praying for me--that if I don't pay a certain amount of money ($1500) for a loan I do not have/a company I have never heard of --then I will be in court tomorrow paying much much more. When I asked him what court and at what time, he told me not to be smart with him because they will pick me up[ from my job and take me straight to court. Of course, I should be happy that he is praying for me.

Well first of all, they can not come and pick you up and take you to court. Did you get the name and address of the company that he is calling from? I send a letter asking them to prove that you owe this money and the amount that you owe. As far as your payday loans, I don't know much about them but someone will be along shortly that can help you out with this. I did find this website that may help you out: "http://www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/paydayloans.html"

"New Consumer Protections
Under a new law that began on March 21, 2011, Illinois consumers now enjoy stronger protections from the payday loan industry???s worst practices. The new law protects consumers from unlimited roll-overs and requires loans to be based on a borrower???s ability to pay. The new law also creates a new type of loan ??? the small consumer loan ??? that is somewhat less expensive than the traditional payday product. Still, even with these new protections in place, consumers must exercise caution when deciding whether to take out a loan to meet their emergency expenses. The cost of short-term borrowing in Illinois remains very high."

Good luck and don't give up hope. It does get better. Oh and I will pray for you too. :)

Crazy and Stressed - you came to the right place. I had 12 PDLs 2 years ago and was so stressed and at a complete loss before I found this forum. Read all the posts on what to do next - close your account , send out debt validation letters, report these bottom feeders to your state attornet general's office, etc and everything will be ok. Don't beat yourself up for what happen - we have all been there and know what you are going through. Don't answer your phone when you see an 800 number. You dont need to hear anything they have to say and be made to feel guilty for the situation you are in. The professionals on this site with help you more that I can - but wanted you to know everything you need to get out of this mess is in here. Good luck!

well being as i'm in IL i need the following.

1)names of each lender
2)amount borrowed from each
3)amount debited/paid to each thus far
4)internet,or storefront

if you have internet pdl's/loans chances are excellent they are not legal/licensed in IL.if that's the case then you only owe the principle.nothing more, and anything debited in "fees"gets deducted from that.please provide the information requested.we will help you here.
