A couple of months ago, I got a call from a collection agency about a payday loan. They said if I paid $300 the matter would be resolved. I did, and then last month, I get a call from some law office saying I need to pay $500 to resolve the issue. I told them about the collection agency and they said they can't do anything about it. I don't have the money to make a payment and now they are threating to issue an arrest warrant.

Shouldn't the $300 I paid be enough? Thanks for anyone who helps.

Will probably need some additional information. What is the name of the PDL company whom you got the loan from? What is the name of the "law firm" who contacted you?

I don't know if this scenario is similar to yours, but I can tell you that there is an active "scam" going on with overseas call centers calling and saying they are from a "legal department" and if you do not resolve a matter with them, they will contact your employer, the authorities, the FBI, yadda yadda yadda. You can tell when it's an overseas caller (usually by an Indian/Middle Eastern accent). These clowns are 100% full-of-crap. They tried to pull this stunt on me several months ago, and I told them I'll be looking forward to meeting the FBI Agents. Gee, what a surprise ... NO ONE has ever shown up on my doorstep.

I got the loan through Ace Cash Express and the "law office" is Bronstein, Shaw, and Associates out of Amherst, NY. I live in Colorado

What was the amount of your original loan? Do you remember the name of the Collection Agency to whom you paid the $300? Was it electronically - via your debit or credit card? (If so, you should be able to get a record of it from your bank).

I would ask the Law Office to send you an accounting of what they claim you owe IN WRITING, so you can see exactly what they are claiming you still owe.
