Do JDBs ever spoof using legitimate charity numbers?

I have an unpublished number and have been receiving an unusually high number of calls from 866 & 877 numbers lately. I don't answer them, but google just to see who is calling me. In the past week I've received multiple calls from 1) The Armed Forces, 2) The Lupus Foundation, 3) The Lymphoma and Leukemia Foundation.
Perhaps coincidentally, I've also recently fended off yet another attack of debt tagging (the third in two years). My alleged debt just keeps getting sold and passed on to the bottom-feeders. Apparently someone out there with the same name as me is running up quite a tab in life.
So, does anyone know if caller id spoofing is a common practice with the CA's? Do they ever stoop so low as to use a cancer or disease charity?
Thanks in advance

It would not surprise me but it is probably a legitimate charity
It would not surprise me but it is probably a legitimate charity that just hangs up when no one answers. They could be sharing a list that you are on. I moved recently and ll the newpapers call all the time trying to seel subsriptions because I am on the list of new numbers. You could be on a list of someone who has donated in the past.
