I received a letter awhile ago from a law firm referring to a medical debt. I seriously do not recall the debt and it's not on my credit reports by the original creditor they stated or by the law firm.

I sent a DV letter within 30 days of receiving their letter. I sent mine certified and tracked it. USPS says it was delivered.

I haven't heard anything since their first letter. How should I proceed? Do I need to wait and keep and eye on my CR? Are they legally obligated to respond to the DV request in a certain amount of time?

Thanks!

Unless you live in TX where the time limit is 30 days to respond, there is no set time period. I would hang on to your receipt for the CMRRR and keep an eye on your credit report.

Reporting after receiving the validation would constitue "further collection efforts" and would be a violation as all collection efforts are to stop during the validation process.

You could send a follow-up letter (if you wish) after a reasonable amount of time has passed.
