What can I say in my local newspaper that my brother is incarcerated and that I am not responsible for his debts. Is this legal.
But how should I word it.

Not sure why you'd put it in the newspaper?

I suggest, when a creditor calls you, you ask for the address of the company and send a letter that states your brother is incarcerated, you are not responsible for his debts and you have no contact information for him. And, tell them to cease and desist all communication with you in relation to your brother's debt(s).

Hi,

Are you getting bothered by creditors and collection agencies for your brother???s debts? Are you in no way related to the debt?

If you are sure that you have never co-signed for any of his accounts, you can send a Cease and Desist letter to the collection agencies stating that you are in no way related to the debt. You can also send a letter to the creditors stating that your brother has become incarcerated and you are in no way related to the debt.

Hope this helps.

Since I've spoke with you it has worsend. There is one job and we are being somewhat harassed and even more about. The brother in Law instructed us to pick up material for which he had paid for off someones property. One of his jobs.
Of course this customer fired the brother for incarceration, but in the meantime filed theft charges on us for taking the material back to the warehouse. So we are having to deal with the police as well. So far this is the only customer we have haunting us.
