Looking to Repair my Credit

One of my questions is in regards to hospital bills, if I send them a payment for say 25.00 a month and they don't think that it is enough can they charge my checking account for more than the check I sent them? I have heard that some places will do an electronic draft but more than the amount you say which I didn't think they could. I don't know if it is just urban legend or not but I was curious about that.
I'm going to try to get into contact with several of the companies on there so I can get everything taken care of.
Again thanks for any help that you all can give me
