so I made the mistake of getting a $500 payday loan from united cash loans in april. I just looked at my bank statements & I have paid them over $800. from looking at the previous threads I NOW know that they are unlicensed & illegal. my question is what do I have to do to get this to stop? I think I need to close my bank account but I don't want to deal w/ the harrassing phone calls at work. I really don't mind pressing ignore on my cell phone, but I can imagine how embarrassing it would be to have people constantly calling you at work!

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If United cash is illegal in your state, then you're only liable to pay the principal amount. You won't have to pay the interests or fees. You can put a hard debit check on your account. You can request them to return the extra money you have paid over the principal amount.

I believe UCL is illegal just about everywhere. You'd probably be smart to close out your account. Just be sure you don't let UCL know beforehand, or they'll more than likely try to get whatever money they can. If you have a deposit coming in or your account is in negative balance, you can put it on "deposit only" status until you can get a new account open. As for the phone calls, well, UCL IS one of the worst when it comes to harassing calls. If they're calling your # at work, just hang up when you hear who it is. If they're calling your coworkers, let your coworkers know you're the victim of fraud and tell them to hang up when UCL calls. And if you have questions, this is the place to ask. Please keep us posted.
