Tradeline Deletion after payment
Date: Wed, 06/29/2011 - 10:15
I'm new to the board/forum so please bear with me. My question is in regard to what happens (or what should happen) after I pay off a collection account.
I had two accounts that were owned by the same CA. I had been making payments on them monthly, but wanted to get them rid of sooner. Today, I spoke to the CA rep who was handling my accounts to see if they would delete their tradelines if I would finish paying off the balance. He agreed, so I went ahead and took care of the balance (don't worry, I got something from them in writing). To the best of my understanding, the tradelines should both be gone from my 3 reports within about 30 days. I know that this may require some haggling on my behalf with the bureaus.
My real question has to do with the OC information on these accounts. The accounts are 2 years away from dropping off my reports for good (the 7 year mark), but I'm hoping and wondering if they may drop sooner since I've paid the CA. I understand that what is on my reports (regarding the OC's) is not technically a "tradeline", rather it is something called "public information". Does this public information stay on my reports for the full 7 years, even if I've paid the accounts off via the CA?
Thanks in advance for your time and help!

I just finished answering a question like this.

What if I DV the OC's and they are unable to furnish the original agreement info anymore because they don't have it? Are they then required to remove their entry?

But if I dispute a debt, any creditor, original or CA has to prove it's legit, right? So if I write the OC and ask for proof of the account, and they can't furnish it, I could write the bureau's and request that they remove the info since the creditors cannot confirm an agreement. No?
That has been my Question too!
I have asked that same question a few times and hope you get an answer for both of us!
How are we able to question a debt with the OC. If it's a payday loan that we didn't take out but not in collections, how can you question it if you can't do a DV. Other debt, like medical bills if you don't think you owe it?
Someone help us with this!!!
Thanks

If you do not think you owe a debt, even to an OC, then tell them. If you have paid it off show payment records. If your insurance co paid a medical bill in full, show the hospital your EOB from the insurance co. If it is a pay day loan, and you are the victim of ID theft, go and ask for original contract and file an ID theft claim with the PD, or go the the web page below.
If you are the victim of ID theft, don't expect an easy road though, it can take a very long time to get everything cleaned up. Pull a Credit Report and report anything that is not yours. Call the Credit Bureaus and tell them to put an alert on you reports, that way, if someone tries to pull one, you will be alerted, or you can get one of those ID protection services.
Even if it is an OC, if you do not owe the debt, you don't owe it. The consumer still has rights, just not the same ones covered under FDCA.
