Under the FDCPA laws, no collection agency is allowed to call you at your work place unless your company policy allows it. If your company policy allows it, then the debt collectors may call you at your work place. You should inform the debt collectors to stop making phone calls at your work place in writing. After that, if they are still trying to contact with you, then you can file a complaint against them to the State Attorney General or FTC.

It is not illegal to contact a third party for location information and to leave a message provided the debt is not disclosed. Did you leave this individual as a reference?? Even if it is a work phone, you have to specifically tell them that you demand no calls or calls are not permitted at your place of employment.
