I just recently discovered that AFNI has a collection on my credit report regarding an old cell phone account, funny thing is I've never seen any information stating that AFNI was now the collector of the debt or that I owe debt. I have lived at the same address for four years since last summer. The collection on my report was opened in 2009. When I had a Tmobile account it was in 2004/2005. Why are they now putting this on my report? And w/out notice that they where doing so?

I filed a dispute with the credit bureaus, stating that I had no knowledge of the account and no correspondence from them prior to seeing my credit report.

Other than that, I have nothing on my credit report. But, this is keeping me from qualifying for a loan for a house.

My question is: Should I still send a debt validation letter to AFNI even though the credit bureaus are investigating? My mother and I got into a huge argument over it, she feels I should not open a can of worms and let the bureaus do the job of investigating. I told her that I still need to send in a letter just in case the bureaus find something different than I. And I only have 30 days to ask for validation from the time I contacted them about the collection on my report. Any help would be most grateful to end the argument of mother and daughter.

Thanks,
Deb

Hi!
Welcome to the Forums!

It may be the case that the account has been assigned to the collection agency. This is why it is appearing on your credit report. You can send a debt validation letter to Afni in writing. The credit bureaus will carry on with their investigation in any way. There is no harm in sending a debt validation letter in writing to the CA.
