I have several outstanding pay day loans in the state of RI. All of them were received through internet lenders. While I understand RI allows internet lenders - so long as they are licensed in some state - how can I tell which ones are not licensed anywhere? Does it make sense to just treat them all as "unlicensed," follow the suggestions in the forum regarding sending them emails, then sort it out later? My loans are currently from:

United Cash Loans
Integrity2Advance
VIP Loanshop
PayDayLoanYes
Go Cash
Cash Jar
Great Sky Cash

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to contact the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation in order to find out which lenders are licensed to operate in your state and which are not. If you find that all the lenders are illegal in your state, then you need to check out the given page in order to know how you should deal with them: http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/illegal-pdl-dealings.html .

Payday lending is legal in RI. You can contact with the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation to know whether or not internet payday loan companies from where you have taken the loan are licensed to operate in your state. If they are licensed, then you will be liable to pay the principal amount with interests and other fees. Otherwise, you are required to pay only the principal amount. Illegal payday lenders don???t have any right to take any legal action against you. To know more about state payday loan laws, glance through the following link:

Thanks for the replies. RI allows internet lending so long as they lender is licensed in SOME state. I've been digging around on this site trying to determine those companies that are not licensed anywhere at all...

I need to close my account (it's overdrawn) and hopefully can remedy that situation in a couple of days. Then I'm planning on following the steps for dealing with illegal lenders. This site has been a big help.
