Debt settled and still sued

I have recently been working with a debt settlement company. I had two accounts with citibank which were being handled by a law firm. The company had reached a settlement and even paid one of the accounts and then I received papers from the court that I was being sued over both accounts. My question is can I counter sue them for suing me for a claim that had already been settled? I live in MS.

Do you have proof in writing that the citibank account was in fact settled? Written settlement agreement and cashed check front and back?? Was there a crossover on dates of when they sued you and when you received and paid the settlement? Citibank has every right to sue you over the other account, so really you have no right to counter.

Debt settlement companies are risky....they wont help you when you are being sued. They are not working for your best interest...

I don't think it's in your best interest to take the time to sue Citi.

Just find all the paperwork showing proof that you paid off one account, and call Citi to set up a payment plan for the other account.

Sounds like he got a summons from the court....he needs to respond with proof to the court that he paid one of the debts. And then show up in court as well!!!

After the summons is answered, then call citibank. There may have been some cross over of paperwork.
