I received a loan from Star Cash, paid them off and a couple of months later I recived another loan. I was laid off and I called them to ask for some time to pay them back, I was told that I needed to pay back the whole thing by a certain time and I told them that I could not promise them that because I was waiting for my unemployment to start. The next thing I know someone is calling me threating to take me to court for check fraud and I will have to end up paying more. I live in SC, what can I do?

As far as I know, payday lending is legal in South Carolina. You should contact the South Carolina State Board of Financial Institutions in order to find out whether or not your payday lenders are licensed to operate in your state. If not, then they cannot take any legal actions against you and you should simply pay them the principal balance in order to get rid of it.
